Before and After Number Activity

This activity can be done with 5+ children.

Materials needed:

  • You can make these cards by yourselves.
  • Write a number in the middle and leave two spaces before and after the number for the child to match the card to the space.
  • Refer the pictures to see how you can make the cards.

 

Procedure: 

  • Let the child to sit at a table or on the floor. 
  • Keep the activity cards on a side and scatter the individual number cards on the other side of the child. 
  • Keep a card in front of the child, ask the number and ask “what number is coming before this number?” 
  • If the child has a difficulty to figure out the number, you can count and show the sequence of numbers and let the child to identify before number while counting. 
  • Once the child identifies the number ask the child to find the number and keep the number card on the particular place. 
  • Ask the after number as well and follow the same procedure. 
  • You can continue the activity with all the activity cards. 

 

Learning outcomes. 

  • Learn the number sequences and backward and forward counting. 
  • Improve counting skills which leads to mathematical development.

Number Recognition Activity

This activity can be done with 5+ children in order to develop their mathematical skills.

Materials needed:

  • You can make the numbers, counters and numbers in words cards by your-selves or you can simply print them. I have used numbers 1 to 10 with their names and counters.
  • I used A4 board to paste the activity. But I needed more spaces while pasting, so I had to use another half of A4 board and combine both cards together to make a one number chart.
  • We need glue as well.

 

Procedure: 

  • This activity is suitable for children who are ready for reading. I recommend for 5+ children.
  • Numbers, numbers in words and counters are scattered on the mat.
  • Child has to paste the numbers on the card.
  • First, child paste the number 1 in words, then the number and then find the counts and paste on the board.
  • While the child continuing the activity, adult can interact with the child by talking about the numbers and by asking what comes next.
  • Once the child finish the activity you can put a code and hang it on the wall as a number chart.

 

Learning outcomes. 

  • Child learns the number sequence.
  • Child learns to read the numbers in words.
  • Child learns to match the number and its quantity.
  • Improve vocabulary.
  • Pasting activity helps for fine motor development.

Pretend Nail Saloon Activity

This activity can be done with preschoolers in order to develop their fine motor skills.

Pretend nail saloon is a fun and easy activity which young children play while they develop many different skills. Setting the activity is super easy. Your child will have a good play time while pretending how mommy applies nail polish.

Materials needed:

  • Colourful nail polish
  • Cotton balls
  • Nail polish remover
  • Cardboard
  • Marker pen

 

Instructions:

  • Let the child to trace the hand on the board using a marker pen.
  • Tracing around the hand is also a good activity to improve hand control.
  • Then offer the nail polish to colour the nails within the outline.
  • Child would enjoy putting nail polish within the outlines like the way mommy does and may ask you “mommy, I did really well putting nail polish. Didn’t I?
  • You can encourage the child by appreciating child’s effort.
  • If you use a printed hand picture, you can laminate it and when the child finish nail polishing you can offer child to remove the nail polish using nail polish remover and cotton balls.

 

Learning outcomes:

  • Child develops fine motor control
  • Learns to control hands within the line.
  • Improves concentration
  • Inner satisfaction and improve hand and eye coordination
